II. LECTURES

Week 11

Usability Testing & UI Kit
  • Evaluating a product or service with representative users
  • Participants are told to complete specific tasks while being observed
  • The aim is to detect usability issues, gather qualitative data, and assess overall user satisfaction
  • It doesn't yield large feedback samples like questionnaires
How to Conduct UX Research with Usability Testing
  • Develop tasks for participants to complete

UI Kit
  • A pre-packaged collection of all UI components for a mobile app or website
  • Many UI kits can be used as templates for niche-specific use cases.
  • UI design has a massive impact on how much time users spend in an app. If the app is well-designed, easy to navigate, and responsive, users are less likely to churn or uninstall the app

  • III. ASSESSMENT 3

    Sketches

To start, I took the lecturer's suggestion and started sketching on paper. It started off as very rough sketches, which would later be refined. References for the sketches were mostly taken from pinterest, along with rival apps such as Watsons and Sephora.

    Wireframes

After making the sketches, I moved on to create the solid wireframe and the general flow of it. I started sketching digitally, since it would be easier to transfer and use as a reference for the prototype later on.

    Lo-fi Prototype

I then moved on to the lo-fi prototype on Figma, which ended up looking like this. Since this is just a lo-fi prototype, I focused more on the layout and hierarchy instead of the design.

    User Testing

I then interviewed 3 of my friends, all of whom are non-UI-UX designers.

The 3 tasks I gave them were very simple, all with the goal of successfully purchasing the product, which is the main goal of the app.

Results from the testing showed that there were no major issues with the current prototype, and only slight changes are needed.

    IV. FEEDBACK

    Week 10
slight layout tweaks, along with spacing fixes

    Week 11
    progress, proceed with user testing

    Week 12
    completion of the task

    V. REFLECTION

Since I had prior experience in using Figma, I had no issues creating the prototype and had lots of fun. This task was much easier compared to the previous tasks, since there wasn't much research and testing needed. The user testing was also very quick; each interview only took about 5-10 minutes. The most trouble I had throughout this task was creating consistency between each wireframe. Since I was basically taking pieces of inspiration from separate sources, the sketches often looked inconsistent and messy. In the end, I managed to settle on one main design, which became the main reference for the rest of the frames.
