Ideation

Our first draft for the storyline was slightly different. It involves a short getaway-like film, almost like a vlog of us travelling. After consulting with the teacher, he suggested to add more plot to the story. He also gave us an idea of adding an imaginary friend character to the story, and we ended up running along with that idea.

Final Proposal

After completing and getting approval on the proposal, we went on to the filming process. However, we took quite a while doing all the recording, and we ended up scrapping a bunch of the footage.

Editing Process

After completing the shooting, my partner and I decided to divide the editing into 2 parts. I was given the task of color correcting and adding the sound effects to the video, while she did the VFX and editing. However, while editing, we discovered that a few of our scenes were unusable, so we decided to refilm a few scenes.

For the sound effects, I mostly used the website called Pixabay since they have a really wide variety of sound effects.

And for the background music, I wanted something more whimsical to add to the dream sequence. I found this no copyright music on YouTube: YouTube Link

For the dream part, I debated whether to color correct the scenes into either a blue-ish or pink-ish hue, but we both ended up settling on the blue-ish one.

For the rest of the scenes, I made sure to balance the exposure to decrease the overall brightness and tweaked several other settings to make sure all the clips are similar.

III. FEEDBACK

Week 11: Sir reviewed our storyboard and suggested changing the witch idea to an imaginary friend to add to the plot.

Week 13: We showed our first draft of the video. Sir approved of the story flow, and told us to proceed with the VFX.

Week 14: We presented our final work to the teacher and got his final approval.

IV. REFLECTION

One of the biggest lessons I learned from working on this video-making project was just how important it is to plan thoroughly before filming. At first, we jumped into shooting with only a rough idea of what we wanted, and that led to a lot of confusion, retakes, and wasted time. We ran into problems later during editing since the clips didn't fit properly. It became really obvious that without a solid plan. Looking back, I now realize that pre-production is essential. If I ever do another video project, I’ll definitely take more time to plan things out carefully beforehand.
