Part 1: Idea Development (Week 10)

Introduction:
My name is Gwendalyn. I was born and raised in Indonesia. I am currently 18 years old, and I recently moved to Malaysia to further pursue my studies.

What is your passion?:
I have a passion for anything artsy, whether it's arranging florals, scrapbooking, or creating unique designs. I enjoy experimenting with bright colors, bold patterns, and various effects in my designs. I constantly seek and wish to learn new ways to bring vibrancy and creativity to everything I create.

What motivates you to achieve your dream?:
The idea of being independent and to lead my own life

How do you want to visualize your dream in an artwork?:
I want to create a bright, colorful collage of me and the things that represent who I am as a person.

I would like to do:
I want to create a poster that represents me and my interests, hobbies, and essentially a visual representation of who I am.

What is the concept behind it?
A collage/scrapbook of me and the things I love

What is the message you want people to understand?
Cherish the things we hold dear, embrace them, and allow the positivity they bring to surround you.

What is your motto/ quote?
“Stay True to Yourself”

Since I was going for a more scrapbook look to the poster, I decided to choose lots of elements online to create a more "sticker" or "scrap" look

I decided to start with picking a style or font for the quote, "Stay True to Yourself".

In the end, it came to either option 1 or 4.

Figure 5: Draft 1

After making the first draft, I noticed that the quote's style didn't fit too well with the poster, so I opted for the option.

After getting the composition down, I added more "sticker" elements

Animation

After finalizing the poster, I started to work on the animation. My plan is to animate the "stickers" by slightly rotating or wiggling them.

Title: "Pieces of Me: A Scrapbook"

Artist Statement:

This poster is a reflection of my interests, hobbies, and essentially a visual representation of who I am. It embodies the idea of staying true to myself, as each element on the poster represents a different aspect of my personality and passions. All these elements come together to showcase the uniqueness that makes me, me.

  • Blue Batik

This traditional fabric symbolizes my connection to the culture I come from and is a reflection of my roots.

  • Flowers

The flowers reflect my love for floristry and my dreams of becoming a florist one day.

  • Paper elements

Scrapbooking is another of my hobbies. These paper elements reflect my love for preserving memories through paper. Through scrapbooking, I can capture the essence of moments, expressing my creativity and personal experiences in an artistic way.

  • Bright colors

The vibrant colors reflect my optimism, enthusiasm, and the positive environment I wish to create around me, from the people I interact with to the places I love to be.

Weekly Progress:

IV. REFLECTION

I had lots of fun doing this assignment. It allowed me to do a deep dive into who I am, my passions, and my interests. Through Mr. Fauzi's weekly guidance, I was able to stay on track with the project. Although I had several problems while animating in After Effects, I am happy with the final outcome
