Research

Figure 1: Inspiration from Pinterest

These are some references I found on Pinterest. I wanted to go for a more playful vibe

Ideation

I used a website called "Dafont" to find unique fonts to match the poster.

Figure 3.1: Initial Sketch 1

Figure 3.2: Initial Sketch (Digitized)

After the first consultation with the teacher, here's his advice:
  • Layout is good
  • Steps can be illustrated and expressed in a more literal way; like stairs or the shape of a shoe print etc
After those changes, I submitted 2 more sketches.

Figure 3.4: Sketch 3

The teacher liked the second sketch more, but suggested several changes:
  • The word steps can be in the shoeprint
  • "Add up" looks good since it is getting bigger and bigger
  • The entire quote element is good as it is centralized, you can also try to make it bigger

Figure 6: First Draft

After showing the first draft to the teacher, he said that the background was distracting and that I should either change it into a similar image or crop some parts out.  Also, I realized the text didn't blend well with the background, so I tried to morph it into a staircase/trapezium-ish shape.

Figure 8.1: Progress

To make the main text stand out more, I decided to make the background dark blue along with outlines and shadows by utilizing the Gaussian blur tool.

Figure 8.3: Added Details

For the finishing touch, I added slight details on the top and bottom of the poster to help fill up the space, along with a color filter to help create a more cohesive look to the poster.

Reflection
Overall, this assignment was a big challenge for me and it can be further improved. Despite all the struggles, I am still quite satisfied with the outcome. Using a combination of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, I was able to experiment with a bunch of different features and learn more about these two programs. Although it was difficult to compile both the feedback received, I was able to create one cohesive poster in the end thanks to both the teachers.
